Synopsis
Commissioned by Create NSW/Screen NSW, A Place For Every Story is a high-impact locations film and branding designed to position New South Wales as a premier screen destination. The piece showcases more than 50 diverse NSW settings – from urban sophistication to regional landscapes – demonstrating how the State convincingly doubles for the US, UK, Europe, and Asia while leveraging the State’s world-class screen industry infrastructure.
Goals
• Give international studios and producers a clear, compelling brand for NSW film production and establishing NSW as a global leader
• Demonstrate range and production readiness (locations, studios, crew) in a single, cinematic statement
Innovation & Craft
• Brand line built to last. The phrase “A Place For Every Story” was created to encompass a branding that tied the craft of telling stories to its location. This tagline has proven to endure as an identity that has lived beyond the reel across policy, marketing, and partner communications. Even today, Screen NSW uses it as an enduring positioning line.
• Editorial design for global producers. The film moves quickly through contrasting environments (urban/period/coastal/regional) to signal NSW’s ability to double multiple territories – a core decision driver for footloose productions.
• Pragmatic persuasion. The film intercuts cinematic vistas with studio access messaging (Fox Studio’s proximity) to balance inspiration with logistics – ie. beauty + feasibility in one pass.
Why it Matters
A strong locations identity helps states compete for big-budget, mobile productions. Following the launch of A Place For Every Story, NSW leaned into this branding while expanding incentives and promoting capacity; in the 2022-23 wrap NSW accounted for more than half of Australia’s $2.3b production spend, underscoring the state’s momentum as a screen hub (brand + policy + incentives working together).
Nationally, the Federal Government’s cultural policy also echoes the brand spirit with “Revive: a place for every story, a story for every place,” signalling how the idea resonated beyond one state into federal framing.
